Oh ok, well it must be a common problem then, because another guy is having the exact same problem that you are having, and on an FZ-10 even. And people seem to think the FZ-10 is more reliable..

Good luck.

Is there an english guide for the laser swap yet? For the new sf-92.5? The russian guide is a little tough to follow.

Thanks in advance :D

so is there one final best solution to replace the laser in a fz1?
my RGB 3dos laser is 98% dead now.

just got it to boot it 1 more time to start Taiketsu! Rooms for the my 1st time to play this great multi player game.
great game more on that later..

it wont boot anything most of the time now....

update i dont think its my laser, its the drive shaft.
the plastic gear at the end is split making it a little wider on the split half.

as the drive spins it will get hung up at that revolution.
i tried to loosen the braket that hold the motor then its does not grip the gear good enough, too tight and it locks the drive shaft per the revolution.

its time to replace it.

anyone have a dead fz1 cd drive. i dont need a working laser.
let me know ill buy it from you .

Fixed! :)

with a gear from a Sony CDU-8002 mechanism inside an AppleCD-150.
A guy at a local pc store gave me some old cd roms from 1992-1997.

the gear looked like the lower gear in the above pic.
i removed the center part and cut that in half so i got 2 replacement gears out of it.
I then used a small screw driver to gouge the hole in a few spots.
now the shaft fits snug with no glue.

The 3do is working great

Thanks for posting the info acem77. I have been trying to find a new gear for the FZ-1 I got a few weeks ago. My gear split in the exact same spot. Its like it shrunk over time or something.

Oh,by the way, how did you cut the new gear?

I used a grinding wheel to remove the thin large diameter gear.
Then a dermal in a vice with a thin cut off wheel to cut the center piece in half.

Hm, I'm glad I ran across this forum. My FZ-1 has been gathering dust in my closet for ages because the power won't come on. The fuse at TM1/TM2 blew out, and upon replacement it just blew out again instantly. Because of the physical location I suspect some sort of power supply issue, but I'm more of a MacGyver than a Nikolai Tesla, so I'm hesitant to delve too far into the circuitry without a little guidance. Could anyone provide any insights or a solution?

Any updates on this? I just got an FZ-1 model from an estate sale and since it powered on i thought it would work, but it won't read games. The games are not spinning so I thought it was the motor but now i am not sure if they laser is working. Should I see a light coming from the laser? Also maybe the white gear is broken?

I took it apart last night and will look at it again tonight to see if the white gear is in good shape.

I think I need a new motor and/or laser. Where can I get these at or what exactly am I looking for? I would like to attempt to fix this thing.

I can try to post pictures later.

If anyone has any info or help for me I would appreciate it!

Thanks.[/img]
