I was playing 3do today on my 40" LCD. It didn't look too bad at all. S-video right to the display. If little 12 or 13 year old me could have seen this sight... I took pics for friends to show off my nerd side.

What aspect ratio were you using? Because I just got an S-Video cable (new from Radio Shack) today and in 4:9, I really didn't notice much of a difference. I expected to, but am really disappointed and am thinking of returning the cable.

I tired 4:3 but ended up using 16:9. I don't know if looking better is the right way to say it but to me it was. Sharper is a better description. The bigger the display the more pronounced the difference.

Yeah, I noticed that certain images appear sharper. In my (limited I admit) experience it seems to vary by game, with certain titles appearing a bit better, and others worse.

As awesome as xrgb3 is, being in pal land and as a friend of mine pointed out who has xrgb3, as great as they make old consoles look good on new tv's, there is still lag, and the picture isn't as great as a CRT set. Luckily our CRT's got RGB scart inputs.

For those without rgb xrgb is the only option on modern sets

I've heard some bad things said about the xrgb3, but that's more from video heads rather than gamers. It is an inexpensive way to make games look better on modern TVs though.

Out of curiosity, how are you changing the ratio? Through the console? or you mean through the T.V. settings?

I also have a 55'' LED and it looks good, but sadly I don't have an S-Video port just a ton of HDMI and only one composite/component. I would invest in that hdmi box posted above but it's a touch pricey for me...

svideo on any tv hd or not will help a hell a lot.
any svideo cable will do even the cheap ass ones, unless you have a 15ft+ run....

as odd as it is rf may look better than composite on some tvs.
something to do with the internal convert on the tv.
worth a try for systems with out svideo like nes, unless its rgb modded.

rgb converted with a xrgb like device is the best on hd tvs fact.

I had a xrgb2 plus with vga out and that worked great on my samsung
dlp.

I just bought a lg 3d passive tv and my xrgb2 plus had issues...

I ended up getting the new xrgb mini with hdmi out and it works great with my lg tv. the 2d to 3d conversion is cool to see on some games.

I rgb mod 3do and nes

I had my system hooked to a tiny Batman CRT,but then tried it out on my 39 inch Lcd Vizio only using regular AV cables manage to get a decent picture with my picture set to panoramic view looks pretty natrual and good.(Playing Monster Manor)

Going to try Svideo and see if theres a slight improvement.
Here to stay.. ;)

How about a big arse tube projector? ;)

Depending on what im playing, ill run the 3DO into the projector direct with S-Video if im using the guns ( cause they dont work with the upscaled image ) or ill connect through the Faroudja scaler if im playing normal games. Would be ideal if i had RGB output on the 3DO, id go direct in with that instead.
