I have a NTSC 3DO FZ-1 which as developed a fault reading discs!

I just received two new games this morning and when I went to try them the access light flashed for a brief moment, the screen went black and nothing else happened.

* There is no access light on after this point
* There is no noise coming from the system

I've read a few site where it could be the motor, or the pots that need adjusting...

I plan to open it up over the weekend and try and figure it out but I've never opened a 3DO before and was hoping someone on here would have experience in this field...

If anyone can help or offer suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

I've dismantled the system and tried playing a disc.

The motor starts but doesn't drive the disc...

I'm thinking it could need a new motor?

Heres a picture of my drive (thought it might be a useful reference point.

Based on the information I've gathered the laser pickup motor is knackered.

Can anyone confirm where I can source a replacement from?

Just thought I'd make a quick post to say this is now fixed

The problem was the "Shaft" which is the silver "Drill bit look alike" next to the laser in the centre of the picture above (Under the PCB).

If you try and move it by hand you couldn't!

I removed the two screws holding it down on one side and spread the greece along the shaft and made sure it turned before screwing it all back together!

And it's buggered again!

Lasted about 30 minutes.

Today I've stripped down the whole drive and exposed the actual motor that drives the shaft!

I've ordered a replacement so we'll see if that fixes the problem after it arrives.

If this doesn't resolve the issue it must be the thing in the middle that actually spins the discs? Is that motor powered? Are they common? (Referencing picture below)

Yeah thought I'd share pictures because although theres loads of topics around the internet on this exact fault there seems to be lacking pictures etc.

I hope it does work too, I was right getting into Demolition Man when it crashed
