Hi all!

I just got an used Panasonic FZ-1 3DO with a very strange noise. Sounds like a grinding noise when it reads the disc (also when you open and close the tray).

I uploaded a video to youtube: http://youtu.be/sXzGFytUitA

You can hear the noise at:

0:02
0:07
0:13
0:27
0:35
0:38
0:45
0:49
From 0:53 to 0:58

Actually, it reads the disks and I can play the games, but the noise is very annoying and it could mean that something inside is broken. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

ive got a megacd 2 that has a nasty grinding noise when first starting but plays games and audio discs fine, ive been reading that tamiya (the rc car company) makes a great gear oil but im gonna go with a lil silicon spray and ill let you know how it goes but im thinking the same might apply to your problem
all the best

Both of my 3DOs are noisy but yours sounds different in that video. My only real concern would be that the noise after you load the disc tray sounds rather like the laser banging against the stops, and that's not too good in the long run. That said, my Mega CD has done it to an extent for years and it's still going strong.

Hmmm...Actually, the laser is not banging against the stops. It makes the noise when it changes its position to read the disk.

You may have a cracked gear - grinding is one of the symptoms that I've noticed..

Good luck!
