What sort of online shop should I start?

Post by 3DOKid » Mon Apr 13, 2009 7:18 pm

I have a few quid spare, and I want to start a sort of 3DO/PSX/Saturn/Jag mid-ninties online internet Ye Olde Shoppe but not selling games (because you can only get retro games from eBay, and then your shop is more expensive than eBay which kind of defeats the object)

I was thinking Posters, T-Shirts, collectors equipemnent like high quality CD replacments cases, shelving, china paper, CD Lens, you know stuff people like us want/need. I don't want to be a trillionaire, just learn from it for the time being.

Any suggestions?

I don't know if you guys heard about this place:
http://www.chasethechuckwagon.com/

It's a video game auction site. It started up about a year ago in opposition to all those bs fees that eBay and PayPal throw around left and right.

It's still relatively small. Just recently they hit the 2,000 user mark. But it's a decent site and shows it can be done.

I did join some months back. I think it will continue to pick up speed & be a realistic alternative tn Ebay.

whats been missing from most stores (online and off) is related merchandise
t-shirts , clothing , stuffed toys , trading cards , posters etc - I for one would look at such a store.

for many years I have harboured a desire to own/run an all emcompassing video game store (the bricks and mortar style!)
retro next to new - associated clothing lines etc. I believe quality clothing would sell well - a pair of decent jeans with the Atari logo on a rear pocket anyone?

I wish you the best of luck in your budding endeavour Kid and you certainly have my support and guidance if you want/need it (I was a retail manager for many years)
