I finally got another working CD-i!

Post by Trev » Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:15 pm

With a brand new timekeeper chip! :D I'm kinda glad I never did sell most of my dozens of titles (wasn't for lack of trying though  )

My favorites so far are Secret Mission (by Microids of Amerzone & Syberia fame) and the 2 Clue discs. Also, the CD-i version of Tetris, despite a questionable control scheme, is very good.

I may need to hop back over to our sister forum and chat w/Bas. 8)

I could go for some CD-i 7th Guest right about now. Wish I had a good looking 450 just for that purpose.

Yep. There was a sequel, Clue - The Mysteries Continue. Same cast & setting, but new stories. Two of it's stories made it to the pc version.

You should hop over to our sister forum. CD-i Experience?

Here is some more info from the blog of Bas ...

http://cdii.blogspot.com/2007/09/cluedo ... -cd-i.html

Both are great games imho, and easily among the CD-i's best. I also have the pc version, which is also nice & a bit different but not quite as good as the CD-i titles.

I think I just have the first one but since I can't get to my discs right now I'm not sure. Yes "CD-i Experience" is me after making my account I wish I had made it "CD-inexperience". :)

I know the feeling. Despite having a moderately decent size collection, I am still very much a newbie when it comes to CD-i.

If my knowledge of 3DO was an A (which it isn't) I'd grade my CD-i know how a D-

It's interesting ... our sister forum had a 2 1/2 year head start on us & has nearly 3 times as many users ...

yet we 6000+ more posts ... and cetainly more active members.

We need a CD-i kid! Time to put down the mushroom.

Okay, so I just got done looking over my CD-i collection of 50 something titles. Based on what I now own, here are my top 8 (in no special order)

Burn Cycle
Clue & Clue 2
Flashback (not as good as the 3DO version though)
Mutant Rampage Bodyslam
Secret Mission
Tetris
Thunder in Paradise

I think these are all very good games ... but they are certainly not for everyone.

Burn Cycle for example is more of an experience than anything else. Light on gameplay, it really drives you only thanks to its story, locations, and incredible soundtrack!

Likewise, Secret Mission was a blast for me ... but I love point n click games. If you aren't a fan, it will be almost impossible to overlook the tough control & terrible voice acting.

Hope this gives an idea, and I'm happy to add more detail on these (or any other games I own/have played) if you like.

heh

yeah Burn : Cycle is really cool. I need to get a new middle part for the UK version. The guy I bought mine from didn't pack it well and the grips broke so it doesn't hold the discs anymore. :(
