I went to see the latest fast and the furious. I thought it was okay, if you ignore the flagrant abuse of the laws of physics at the end.

In context:

The original: Fast and the furious: Awesome
The sequel: 2 Fast, 2 Furious: Alright
Tokyo Drift: I quite liked it.
Fast and the furious 4: Utter toilet fodder.
Fast and the furious 5: Not bad. (what happened to the cars?)

I'm assuming this isn't just for cinema releases, if that's ok? Well after the good Doctor finished the other night I flicked over and saw that Titanic was on.... don't leave, please bare with me!

I saw this in the cinema upon its original release and, despite the corny love story, I really enjoyed it back then. I understand why they had to invent a couple of characters, so that you'd have someone to care about when the boat was placed in jeopardy, but to be honest the ending would've shook me anyway!

I was surprised on 3 counts when I watched it on Channel 4 the other night:

They didn't cut Kate Winslet's breasts out of it despite that scene going out at 8pm!

The acting of Kate and Leonardo was woeful! (I don't remember it being that bad in the cinema!)

And the hour or so of the boat going down is still, in my mind, one of the most horrifying (in a good way) pieces of cinema ever - probably because of the fact that we know it actually happened.

Seeing kids dying, that old couple lying in bed waiting for the end, people smacking against bits of the boat as they fell... basically that whole hour is truly terrifying when you ignore the awfulness of the main leads and the constant "Rose!", "Jack!", "Rose!", "Jack!" script! Knowing that this is probably the closest we'll get to seeing that disaster happen, if that hour-and-a-bit was removed and made into a documentary it'd be on my favourite DVDs list. I remember in the cinema the surround sound even freaking me out due to the people screaming all around me after the boat had finally gone down.

Basically, the movie has become ridiculed over the years because of the love story, the dialogue of the two main characters and the acting between the two leads.... but watch it from when the iceberg is spotted, and it's still rivetting, still terrifying and still a great piece of cinema.

The bits set in the then-"Present day" are good too. Such a shame it's all let down with the "story".

Titanic was teh "Gheyz" just because, it was a good film. Leonardo has been a good film icon since. I hated Titanic because of him, but in fairness, since them his name has been a symbol of a good film...

Been watching spaghetti westerns and a little scifi. Anyone here seen eXistenZ ?

I watched 2001 a Space Odyssey's for the millionth time and Logans Run. (After reading the book, Logans run is a bit meh, since the film removes all the sex and violence - still good though )

Was able to catch On Her Majesty's Secret Service today on TV. One of my very favourite Bond movies simply due to the great characterisations that can sometimes be forgotten in Bond movies. Such a shame Lazenby didn't do any more of them, I think he would've developed into a real competitor for Best Bond. Oh well...

the Green Hornet - ugh horrible
battle los angeles - very good i enjoyed this movie alot
Drive Angry - not what i expected from watching the trailers but i enjoyed this one alot, plus its a nick cage movie

The Eagle - nice spin on the roman/british stuff
Tron Legacy - not as good as the original, but atleast the story was pretty good

No Strings Attached - i laughed out loud at the beginning when ashton is wearing a bright yellow Michigan sweatshirt at a funeral

Great movie! Poor George just didn't have the experience back then. I often wonder what it would have been like if Timothy Dalton hadn't turned down the role?

Lazenby? Really? He was my least favorite.

But yeah Logan's Run is one of my favorites! The LaserDisc has more extras than the DVD but the LD has a really bad side change. Scene wise one of them is right but there is a horrible audio shift that really jerks you.

Wish I had seen eXistenZ before seeing The Matrix.

Yeah, I thought Lazenby nailed the role. It's quite a shock when you first watch his film after seeing all the Connery ones, but he just slips into the role with such ease and I thought really brought a lot of characterisation that had been lost to gadgets and set pieces with Connery's last 2 films.

Some people I know complained about the English accent he has for part of the film, but that's only when he's impersonating another character for a good portion of the middle part of the film and ironically it's another actor's voice dubbed in (the one of the character he's impersonating) lol!

I thought Lazenby was brilliant in the fights scenes too, much more natural, and during the film he expressed fear and danger much more than the "too cool for school" Connery. He made Bond more human to me. Don't get me wrong, Connery is still the better Bond, but that may be an unfair comparison since Lazenby didn't get a chance to develop further.

Trev, Dalton was actually "my" Bond, the one that got me interested in the movies in the first place, through Licence To Kill originally and then the equally superb The Living Daylights. I know LTK was very different but it was still my fave one of the lot of them until Casino Royale

Drive angry is aces. The accountant was awesome.

Beverly Hills Cop is on. I have this on DVD and could watch it at any time, but here I am watching it yet again with advert breaks all the way through!

last movie I watched was Thor, it was just ok not good not bad just ok.



I also finally watched The Time Machine all the way through for the first time. I never could finish it because the original was such a bore I had a hard time believing this one would be any good. But in the end it was actually alright.

The original Time Machine is aces. It come from a time when Scifi was more politics than just pure entertainment. That's why I prefer the likes of The Forever War, Starship Troopers and Logans Run.

The other really old Scifi I like is: Of Things To Come. Awesome

Just stopped myself last night from watching Beverly Hills Cop III for the fifth time in a few weeks! I know it's not as god as II and that wasn't as good as the original, but all three are still classic action comedies and I love them all. I have them all on DVD but various channels have been showing them recently and I've ended up watching them all, all over again, even though there's ads. And everytime the 3rd one has been on it's coincided with those times where I've just fancied lounging in front of the TV

But last night I just thought "no, I can't waste another 2 hours watcing the same movie AGAIN!" lol.

I seen a few recently.

Transformers 3. Seriously? It's a boring, confusing, 3 hours of shit. I was so bored, i cried.

I gave Jason Statham one last chance with: Blitz. It's not bad.

Michael Caine (sir) in Harry Brown. That was okay too.

Anyone seen Drive? I really enjoyed it.

and I'm re-watching the series Space 1999. Which has aged but it's interesting.

The remake of Conan. I wanted to hate it, but it's not bad actually.

Anyone seen any good horror movies? I saw Stake Land which was okay actually.

I watched The Shining last night for the very first time. I've always heard how this was one of "the scariest movies ever made", but it came off as underwhelming in that regard. Still a good movie that relies on tense music more than anything to build the anxiety in the viewer, and I bet a few scenes in it would have been really intense in 1980.

A few weeks back I also watched The Rite, with Anthony Hopkins. A movie about excorcism, it was pretty tame and seemed more like an advertisement for religion and a counter-argument to atheism more than anything. I say pass on it.

I'm having a Logan's run session, watched the movie last night, now I'm onto the TV series which in my opinion wasn't a bad effort for it's time, worth a look if you're a fan.

I love the movie. Even had a bootleg of the TV series which I never got around to watching. Those discs are gone now...

i thought Blitz was classic Statham
Loved the movie Drive, it brought me back to 80s movies it has a major 80s feel to it

watched Smurfs and deleted it after i saw smurf using birds to fly around on. that had to be 5 min into the film

and Kevin smiths movie Red State was awesome best movie he has made to date

got screwed on The Change Up, very few laughs and mostly just UGH! though most of the movie, i wouldnt have watched it if Olivia Wilde wasnt in it

the Green Lantern was a good starting off movie like Batman Begins the 2nd movie better be tits tho

Piranha 3D - awesome movie with tons of T&A

and finally Super8 - i didnt think i would like it but it kept my interest all the way though, not a bad movie if you can stand the fat annoying kid

oh and horror movie Ichi the Killer - i just love this movie, i was willing to read it

I read the book this year. Which is actually pretty good.

Piranha 3D was so far up my street, we have the same postcode.

Super8 was 98% classic Spielberg IMHO. I think I summed it up as 'E.T. goes f**king home'. I loved it though

Drive was fantastic.

I've never seen Ichi the Killer - i will hunt it down.

I just saw Red State. It's awesome.

Agreed. Red State was pretty awesome. It's kind of a horror movie, but not.... very well done.

Another Earth - artsy, but very well done. Moves slow.

Earthling - terrible. artsy but goes no where.

In Time - Has a Logan's Run feel, but a modern sci fi twist. Not great, but enjoyable.

Puss in Boots - It's just like Shrek, but more Puss.

Margain Call - Interesting, but not thrilling.

Trespass - Nick Cage acts pretty well...i know.... The thrill is believable, but not nail biting.

Conan (the new one) - It doesnt feel as epic as the old movies. The action seems very weak as well. The story is there, but it's just not as good as the Arnold ones. I wish it was, because it's a great setting. Bottom line,rewatch the old ones and you'll have more fun.
