That was a pre-order bonus through select retailers in the US. I didn't pre-order, so I didn't get a code. :(
3DO Experience wrote:Ok show of hands, who actually played this game back in the day?
Back in the day, I have to admit I did not play this game. I have tried it on emulators, and I really want to like the game. It is brutal though! After many many attempts I finally beat the first freaking level! haw! I just can't appreciate the game as much as it's sister game that came out the same day using the same engine... METROID! That game is brutal too for most people. To me, that game is a walk in the park. I still enjoy playing that game every now and then. I have more nostalgia memories with metroid, but I still plan on beating the original Kid Icarus one of these days.

And more about Uprising! Not only is the gameplay fun, the graphics, music, dialogue, and presentation are all top notch! There is some pretty funny dialogue I find myself laughing at like I was watching a comedy. It's good fun, and I've only played two chapters.

The 3DS stand that comes with the game also helps out alot. I played a chapter last night without the stand and I kept moving the 3DS out of the sweet spot for 3D. I only did it a couple times, but the stand makes playing the game much easier while playing at a table. It was a nice and well thought out accessory.

3DS XL announced. Will be out in US on Aug 19th along with New Super Mario Bros 2. Price for the 3DS XL will be $199.99. Screens are 90% larger. But no second circle pad.

http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct ... 6-21-2012/

I think I will pick one up for home use. And New Super Mario Bros 2 looks pretty awesome in my opinion. It's gameplay is more focused on collecting coins this time around with alot more coins to go around. I guess one of the ultimate goals in NSMB2 is to collect, 1,000,000 coins.

more: Nintendo will sell its 3DS XL, without charger, and without charging station. Nintendo will sell the charger only at a price of 1,200 yen (about 12 euros), and base along with the charger against 1,500 yen (about 15 euros)

Doesn't it use the same charger as all other DS models? Here in the States, the charger is included. I'm excited, as I love my Dsi XL, although I'll probably wait for some more color choices, perhaps around the holidays.

I read that the US one won't have the charger either (?). It will definitely be compatible with other DS chargers though.

I have heard about the charger not being included in Japan. I have also heard that the charger will be included in the US. I have not heard anything from nintendo yet concerning this though. If I hear or see any proof of it, I will post back here.

I plan on getting a 3DS XL for home use and keeping my regular 3DS for my "out and about" 3DS. I have my 3DS with me at work all the time to pick up street passes from people in my store.

I am sure we will hear all the pros and cons when it releases in Japan on the 28th of July.

Also Aug 19th, not only will there be the dlc (which is pay dlc content :( ) Retail games will also be able to be purchased from the e-shop If you prefer to buy your games that way, starting with New super Mario Bros 2. I personally will not be buying games like this. It will fill up the SD Cards too quick. Which is another reason why the XL is coming with a 4GB card instead of the 2GB card the normal 3DS came with. I have managed to easily fill the 2GB card up with trailers, 3d videos, and demos.

I also like to have physical media for my 3DS games. I kind of have started collecting 3DS games. I have been buying up all kinds of cheap games that I know I will play for 3DS. 17 games so far, with 5 more on the way. I like to get them from sellers on amazon that you can still get free super saver shipping. I also pick them up at my work on clearance with my discounts.

Ok, I am rambling. I am done! :)

EDIT: It might use the same charger as DSi XL and Lite, but I don't have thos to confirm this. I will research this right now...

EDIT 2: As long as the plug does not change on the 3DS XL, chargers from the DSi family of handhelds will work. But, not from the original DS or DS Lite.

I'm nor surprised it doesn't have the second circle pad added in. For some time it looked like it was going to be in the update but recently no one seems to even try to develop for a feature that you can only buy directly from Nintendo or attempt to get from GameStop. Why make games for something that no one has?

I am definitely buying the XL, red. New SMB 2 is a given, I'm only 7:41 into the video and LEGO LoTR looks awesome & that Sonic racing game has my interest. And I'm not big on racing.

I'm wondering if there is a price advantage in downloading NSMB2 vs. buying a physical copy ... any idea, or is it all speculation at this point?

There are also other reasons why the e-shop copies are going to not do so well. All software you purchase on the e-shop is not tied to an account as much as it is tied to your specific 3DS. Even making a back up of the files on the SD card and putting them into a different 3DS will not work. Files are encrypted with a key that is specific to the 3DS it was created on. I am not sure if Nintendo will be able to see what you bought and tie it to a new 3DS unless you send in a broken 3DS for repairs. But even in some specific circumstances, I wonder if the games will be gone for good. Maybe they can do something about it, and I hope they have put some thought into it.

So yeah, I go for retail copies.

I'd strongly suggest getting a Club Nintendo account for anyone who downloads (or plans on downloading) a large amount of games on eshop, virtual console, etc ... Even though it isn't exactly the most user friendly method, it will tie your purchases to an account. The club itself is free, and while transferring games still takes more time & effort than it should, it is still better than the alternative.

Like many (most) I'd much prefer a physical copy. A drastic price cut might occasionaly lure me to the odd title or two, but for the most part I very much like a copy I buy retail.

BryWI, I thought they had changed that so it was tied to an account. I remember hearing that in E3 coverage, unless they were talking about the Wii U.

I think future renditions of the eShop will be tied to an account. As it stands now, they are currently tied to a system. For the DSi-compatible platforms (DSi and 3DS), you can perform system transfers via the settings screen of the system. Otherwise, if you sell a system (like I just did with my 3DS), you will lose whatever content you have purchased, since it's not tied to your Club Nintendo account. I really hope they change this--that's one of the main reasons I re-purchased a XBOX 360 in late '10 when the Slim units became regularly available: the ability to retrieve the loads of XBOX Live Arcade titles I had purchased in the first few years the system was available. It was worth buying the console again just for that!

On a somewhat unrelated note, I highly recommend keeping an eye out on Club Nintendo every time a new month hits. They do sales on three or four specific titles each month. You can get some pretty good deals, like the 3D classics for 100 points. That's how I got 3D Xevious--pretty sweet deal if you ask me. :)

Seems odd that they wouldn't be tied to your Club Nintendo ... the Wii games (VC, Wiiware) are tied to an account, so why not 3DS titles?

They are learning their piracy mistakes they made with the Wii. 3DS is a tight ship to crack. The best anyone might be able to do is a 1:1 copy of a cart. From what I hear though, it's not even as easy as re-flashing a 1:1 cart to another game. What works for one game currently doesn't work for other games. Which is why there are no 3DS mode 1:1 flash carts yet. It appeared at one time that a team did get a retail game to boot on a 3DS, but it also appears that the team hit a snag and hasn't progressed much.

If one could sign into an account and play their games, they could just let people sign into an account, download games and then keep the console off the internet and all of a sudden many 3DS units are using the same game that was paid for once. I know there is likely more checks than just this but Nintendo didn't want to leave any holes open. It's easy to tell Nintendo really really tried this time to avoid the piracy aspects of things.

The Wii on the other hand... It amazing what all you can do with a Wii. :)

Austin, I didn't know you had a 3DS. Exchange Friend Codes?

They might show up on your Club Nintendo account, but in actuality they are linked to your console. Apparently you have raise hell with Nintendo's customer support in order to get your games transferred to another console if, say, it dies.

I would, but I just sold it last night. I have a for sale thread going on over at NintendoAge and AtariAge right now, trying to earn some funds quick. :(

Okay, I understand what you mean now. It certainly isn't the easiest method (nor the quickest) but at least it saves you the loss of your games. Hope the method for WiiU is a bit easier.

I looked up your thread over there. I didn't see that you had any 3DS games for sale. But if you do have 3ds games for sale (or anyone) I like to buy these things up!

PS. Sorry to hear you had to sell off some stuff.

Nah, I had a few but I sold them a while back. Wasn't all that impressed with the library to be honest. I ended up using it more as a standard DS player than anything, hehe. The only game I still had with it, the Pinball Hall of Fame, I bundled with the system. Sorry man!

(PS, if anyone wants to check out the thread and, oh I don't know, help me out, you know where to find me... ;))

Nintendo Japan has told Famitsu (A Japanese Video Game Magazine) that a Circle Pad Pro for 3DS XL will be out sometime in 2012 for those wondering.

Also, the 3DS Stand that comes with Kid Icarus: Uprising works fine with the 3DS XL. I was personaly wondering about this. It's much easier to play KI:U with the stand in my opinion.
