Apple Pippin

One of Apple's less-than-successful ventures.

I have always wanted to pick one of these things up, and I finally got around to doing so.

I don't know what it is about these "Next-Gen", "Interactive", "Multimedia", "we-design-the-console-but-you-build-it" types of systems, but I have a soft spot for them. :D

I also managed to pick up Super Marathon for it (Bungie's precursor to Halo). I've been looking for years for this game. Hopefully I'll get some time to play it this weekend.

Anyone else here have one of these things?

Is there a source that sells titles for this system?

Not that I am aware of.

I was trying to pick one of these up on eBay a few months back to no success. There are quite a few brand new units on eBay right now. I assume someone stumbled across them sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

I've wanted one since I heard about them a few years ago. For some reason I wanted the white one.

Care to share more pics?

Assuming you could actually find the games, the library probably wouldn't be all that hard to complete as I'm guessing it's quite small (although probably quite expensive) An interesting system from an interesting time.

Sure. Anything in particular?

You're right, the library is pretty small, and it is pretty expensive. Luckily, I've already got the most difficult to find game on the system.

Shock Wave is available for the Pippin. It might be interesting to compare it to the 3DO version.

First thing I thought of when you made this thread. Being a much later system, I'd hope the Pippin version would be superior, assuming it wasn't just a quick and dirty port.

Glamor shots of the hardware would be sweet.

As far as Wikipedia says, this thing has a SCSI controller?
So native harddisc support? That's nice! :)

But, except for 640x480 resolution support, I couldn't get any info
about the GPU features - it seems like there is no dedicated 3D support
or any other effects?
So weaker than the 3DO Cel Engines?

PS: Where's the Apple logo?

I think Bandai is the official distributor of the system, and the apple-tech inside was licensed, and thats why its lacking the apple symbol. But im far from certain..

I always wanted one, and nearly got one while NeonAyato had NOS, but i couldnt justify the prices, and now they are gone. The fact the games are also expensive and hard to find is also a deterrent for me. I want to actually be able to use the system, even if its just a crappy game. Bricks doesnt really do it for me. *Glares at his Sanyo....*
