Anybody here pick one up yet? I'd love to hear some firsthand experiences with it.

I wont. I have no interest in Wii or Wii U. The last nintendo console that was/is interesting to me is the snes really. The Wii U has some interesting new ideas, ill give it that, but i prefer traditional style gameplay.

I did hear they "screwed" up at launch in the US though, giving away info the public "wasnt supposed" to know yet, then "fixed" it and refused to comment. Nice one Nintendo, that "mistake" has never been done before... (Yes this is all sarcasm)

I think I will wait to see how it goes. I've bought n64/GC/Wii pretty close to the release day each time, there is nothing that floats my boat at all this time.

It looks like it has a fun launch lineup, but I'll probably hold out until the next Zelda or something (also I have no cash to spare at the moment)

I want to get one, but I can't really afford it. I might try setting aside some money each paycheck, and in a couple of months go and pick one up. We'll see.

Well I got one, BUT I didn't break down and buy one. As some of you might already know I have a friend living with me and while I was on vacation she spent all of her rent money.. on a Wii U. So in lieu of rent money she gave me a new Wii U Deluxe. I'm still very tired from vacation so I've only played it a little but it is lots of fun.

My part of the rent is set aside at the beginning of the month, she always waits until her last paycheck.

In sweden, we get paid only once a month (unless you have some special thing going on), usually around the 25th and most bills expire late in the month, or early the next. I get my "pay" as unemployed around that time also, and i pretty much always pay my fixed monthly expenses first, then i estimate food and such, and then figure out what i have left to actually spend on things i want, rather than need. If i actually shared my living space with someone, id be even more maticulous to pay the living costs FIRST.. i would never assume the other person to carry that cost for both of us.

This isnt really a judgment on either you or her, but i find not making sure those expenses are taken care of before buying something expensive as a games console, is pretty irresponsible. Especially if you share those costs with someone. My housing association would certainly not accept a nintendo console as payment...

Fair enough. Apologizes for overdoing it and derailing the thread. I do stand by my opinions however.

I'm not getting one but I tried it out with a few people. It was okay, I suppose I'm pretty indifferent. If I were a Wii fan I'd get It since the graphical upgrade is welcome.

It's my preferred box for Netflix and Hulu now. The Netflix interface is tied in very well to the WiiU controller. You can switch screens instantaneously. The hulu interface works well, but you need to look at the tv for some menu's. I'm sure it'll get updated soon enough.

Nintendoland is fun. The Nintendo themes are what really sell it though. Without the theme's, it's just good mini games.

NSMBU - Stays true to the 2d mario play-style. This game is crazy fun with 5 players if you have that many friends. Still a good game if you play it solo. Lots of challenges if you like that sort of thing too.

ZombiU- Getting mixed review for all the wrong reasons. It's a survival sim, not Left 4 Dead. You have to use everything you can find to survive, and when you die, it's gone. If you want Left 4 Dead or Dead Island, don't buy this.

This is not a must have console, but I really hope developers use it wisely. There are big things to look forward to like Mass Effect 3 SE. More likely tho, we'll get another dozen clones of Circus Games.

I can't afford to be paying $60 a game anymore. It took me at least a week or two to talk myself into this fact. :(

I will likely pick up gta5 for 360 in the spring and then I will probably be strictly budget gaming for now. There may come a game that will make me pick up a Wii U. It's usualy a metroid title that makes me buy a system.

You definitely need the income to play around with this. It's a reasonable substitute for a media PC. There are ways to stream movies to it if you are capable.

The TV control is also not too bad. My setup is a little too complex for it right now, so don't expect something as robust as the Logitech harmony series. This might be another cool feature that gets expanded upon in the future.

As much as i can understand a poor personal economy (ive had one for 15 years and counting), $60 for a new popular console game is nothing in Sweden.. Here you should expect to pay at least $120 for a popular title at release (just an ordinary edition, no tin box, art books etc, that stuff is at LEAST $30 more, usually a lot more if its something like Uncharted 3 collectors edition with the wooden box, statue etc. thats easly $220. i paid $370 for my GT 5 Signature Edition box).

So id be jumping of joy if the going rate for popular new console games were "just" $60. Not even the "no AAA" titles are that cheap, they usually start at $75 at the lowest for PS3/360, Wii titles are usually slightly cheaper, as are pc versions. The most common price across the board would be $105. This doesnt help you afford the $60, BryWI, and im feeling for you, but it helps you put it in perspective. Games are much cheaper where you live compared to Sweden.. Ive imported the majority of my newest PS3 titles released recently from Play.com, a UK based shop, and i save perhaps $10-20 depending on the title, and they include EU shipping in all their prices. As an example, i got Mass Effect 2 with DLC bundles for the PS3 at around €20 from there, in sweden the cheapest price i could find was 3 times that. Buying games here in Sweden has just become increasingly stupid as european webshops often saves you at least 10% but usually more, including shipping. All you need to do is wait a week or so extra for the game to arrive.

Just some food for thought when talking game prices.

I recently heard that 25% of all Netflix subscribers get their videos via the Wii. I wonder if the Wii U can topple that considering you can watch them both your TV and the control pad.

I use my Wii for Netflix streaming as well. Primarily because I don't feel like paying Microsoft $60 a year just to do that on their console. I also recently discovered I can stream them on my PC, so I've been doing it there, too. Still, when I want to watch it on my TV, I do it through my Wii.

Same here. Netflix was the primary use of our Wii. Not that we don't play games on the Wii mind you, we just watched Netflix more often. Cancelled it a while back but will probably resume it, at least for the cold dark winter months.

Did anyone else pick one up? I got a Deluxe model from my parents for the holidays and I have been playing it the last few nights (going to play some more after writing this, actually). I am enjoying it no doubt, but my experience has been kind of rocky so far. Things like it not connecting to my router (a known issue, apparently), or it losing signal to my controller (and then me having to pull the power from the wall outlet to get the system to reset and recognize it again), to another time where it completely lost the HDMI signal (which magically came back after I reboot the system :?).

Also, the software has been underwhelming to me. Maybe not so much the games themselves, but the overall polish on the titles. Load times aren't great overall, and framerate stutters are common (in the non-Nintendo games anyway). Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed especially made me scratch my head a bit, because it runs at 30 frames per second. I know, I know, I probably shouldn't be complaining, but I just think to myself, "MAN, this is a NEW system, and it's 2012.. [pretty much 2013] ..The games should be buttery smooth!". I guess maybe I was simply wrong to expect a more fluid experience over what is already currently available (the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3).

Funny enough, Tank! Tank! Tank!, in all its goofy arcade-like glory, is the game that has made me smile the most. :)

(ok, that's a lie--I think I teared up a bit when I got to the Panzer Dragoon track in Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed)

Congrats on getting a Wii U! :) I'll be looking forward to some vids of it on your Youtube channel. That's cool that your enjoying Tank! Tank! Tank! Most reviews I've read have trashed it, but I think it looks fun.

Nah, there probably won't be any vids. I think I am going to hold off on doing any further modern system content until I get a HD capture device. It simply doesn't do the titles justice when they are recorded at low resolutions.

Tank Tank Tank could use a positive video though, it seems most people hate it (I kind of like it). :)

I haven't seen any positive reviews of it yet. Part of it might be the price. $50 for an old arcade part w/o a ton of extra content does seem a bit high in this day and age. I bet the game is a blast in the arcade for 50 cents! It'll probably be a budget game before long, and more people will scoop it up and have fun with it.

Absolutely. I picture it being a bit of an overlooked classic that people begin to appreciate more as time moves on, similar to the first Earth Defense Force game on the XBOX 360.

This month is looking pretty good w/Lego City, Need for Speed, Monster Hunter, etc ... Of course I don't have one yet, but ...

The original Wii is getting Pandoras Tower finally too!

I got a Wii U just before last Christmas and over the holidays tried my best with Zombie U and Nintendoland. The latter is a great wee game and shows the potential for the machine but is much more suited to multiplayer. The original Wii Sports had me playing it on my own for months but this new one lacked something in that department. Zombie U looked great, had an amazing atmosphere and had such a great interface. I loved the fact it was all about survival, not shooting and so it felt truly original.

But, for some reason or other I just couldn't get into it. I honestly don't know why. I should've loved it and I can't find fault with it, but I just couldn't get "into" it.

In the new year I was looking forward to Lego City, and it didn't disappoint. I lost dozens of hours of my life to that game, as I was in no rush to complete the story and wanted to explore every nook and cranny, and do everything possible. Amazing game.

But then E3 happened. "Lack of software" didn't even cut it. I'm sure Mario Kart and the new Zelda in a couple of years will be awesome, but that was it! The only other must have for me was the Wind Waker remake, and that's a remake! DK looked good but not different enough from the Wii version. Monolith looked great too, but I though hang on, I spent £300 on this and that's all there is??

Apart from Lego and the downloadable game The Cave I was using it for Netflix and that was it. So I decided to sell it, got £200 profit in the end which paid off a debt. Sold a bunch of old C64 stuff too, the magazines along buying something special ;)

Looking at the new machines, and the Wii U... I've decided my one dedicated gaming system (I use my iPad too for smaller games) is that something special - the 3DO :) I'm living perpetually in the mid-90s again.

From what I've heard, The Wonderful 101 is an awesome Wii U game.

I've found myself going to my WiiU more and more this year. It's my preferred system for Netflix, hulu etc...
If I can get it to play movies from my NAS, it would almost replace my HTPC.

E3 didn't show a lot, but there's a massive amount coming for the WiiU this holiday season.

The WiiU is the only console that's doing something different. All other consoles are the same controls and FPS's i've been playing for the last decade. WiiU is not a brilliant system, but it offers something unique at the moment.

You have Pikmin 3 now, Zelda WW HD soon, Wonderful 101, Smash Bros, and Mario 3d, and Mario kart on the way.
3rd party has actually picked up as well. Some games are dropping to around $20, so i'm plenty happy with this thing.

I thoroughly enjoy the Wii U. I use it for a lot of things, from random web browsing, to Netflix, to Wii and Wii U games. I have just (in the last few days actually) finished Pikmin 3. I never played much of the first or second games, but I have to say, part three was an excellent game through and through. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, funds are tight for me right now, so I am probably not going to experience the Wonderful 101 anytime soon, which I hear is AWESOME (which I was planning buying on day-one, which was yesterday).

I also recently did the Wii to Wii U system transfer. It was really a tear-jerking experience, as lame as it sounds. As my data was transferring (and the Pikmin animation was happening), I realized a console generation for me had officially come to an end. All of my data was no longer available on the original Wii I had been using it on for the last several years--it was now stuck on my Wii U. As saddening as that was, whenever I pop in an original Wii game on the Wii U, I can pick up right where I left off on my original Wii. Very cool stuff. I picked up on my Mario Galaxy save game the other night, for instance, trying to pick up a few extra stars I hadn't obtained before (despite have already seen the ending to the game).

Despite its lack of power compared to the PS4 and XBOX One, this is what I appreciate about it. It is doing something different. I like its different take on an online console community (re: MiiVerse), and I really appreciate the tablet controller itself. The controller has cool uses outside of games, too. With the internet browser capability, I have been using it as a tablet (literally) to look up terms I catch while studying for my Security+ certification. The controller doubles as both a gaming pad and a tool, which I think is awesome. I can't do the same with my XBOX 360. Sure, I have a smartphone.. But it's not quite the same, and I'm not spending hundreds on an actual tablet itself. The Wii U is the best of both worlds.

The only real concern of mine is the lack of games, but even that I haven't cared *that* much about outside of hoping it catches on with the general public (which is what Nintendo needs for this system to survive). As my time gets more and more limited for modern titles that take more than an hour or two to finish, I don't care as much for super-frequent releases, as long as they are good releases.
