I used to love the DC and found one at a local store for $20. Is that a good price?

DCs do have short lifetimes, that's what you should keep in mind.
Someday the DC boots - black screen - boot - black screen - ...
Happend to all three DCs I had.

That's just a problem with the contacts of the power supply and very easy to fix.

I have 3 Dreamcasts and never had any of those problems.

The problem that I do get from time to time after very constant usage is that the laser needs to be calibrated. Although it's a pain in the ass, it only happens after months of extensive gaming and it's extremely simple to do.

Hell, I picked myself up a Dreamcast that was "broken". All I did was calibrate the laser and ta-da, working Dreamcast. It's been working fine ever since without any problems...

Boot - black - boot, that was the beginning.
Very bad experience. But its comparable
with the first PSX (Heat-Bug) and the XBox360 (red light).
Ill never buy a DC again.

Thanks everyone.

What is the date that you could play backups? If I remember correctly, it was pre-October 2000. I think i am going to buy it today, but they are selling used PS2's for $80! :?
