The problem with Stephen King films

Has there ever been a good Stephen King movie?

They all seem to start off aces, and then turn to rubbish. Just watched Desperation, which starts off really good, but ended in the usual King boys-own-adventure.

i always liked christine , the original shining has jack nicholson so it's cool , but it's a complete butchering of the actual story , steven king did a remake of the shining on tv in mini series format a few years ago , it's like 4 hours long , but it's very accurate to the book ....just no jack nicholson . you should still check it out .

I've always liked Cujo.

The Langoliers was also a good mini-series, although it did sort of turn to rubbish at the end. Definitley started of aces though

I forgot about the Shining, that was indeed brilliant throughout.

The other one I remember is IT. 2hours 45minutes of brilliance and 15 minutes of some middle aged bloke throwing his mums earings at a big spider.

I forgot to add 'Secret Window' to my earlier post, but this was another movie that I enjoyed.

Shining (old version)
Salems Lot (new version)
Green Mile (25 % kitsch)
Dead Zone
The Lawnmower Man (3DO atmosphere somehow)
Misery
The Stand (50 % kitsch)
Firestarter

Yes, IT - movie for the childhood, but the spider is kitsch.

Woah.

2 points of issue.

1) There were TWO Shinings?

2) I always associate 3DO and the Lawnmower man. It was the same sort of era.

Wow.

Room 1408 was the best I've seen for a while and I actually didn't mind Needful Things but some should never have been made - It , Golden Years - and some should never have been made twice - The shining , Maximum Overdrive/Trucks.

Lawnmower man evokes memories of the era for me too - remember all those game screenshots! Total balls up of what was actually a okay short story.

Was 1408 a Stephen King? That was actually quite good - but the ending was a big bag of nails.

Speaking of Stephen King films I watched The Mist over the weekend. I really liked it.

Check this out, if you've seen The Mist this will be even more hilarious:

Anyone read his Dark Tower series? It's seven(!) books long and is actually quite good but has a really, really disappointing ending

I've heard that J.J. Abrams (the bloke who's making the next Star Trek) is doing the movie version.

How they're gonna fit seven books in a movie is anyone's guess

I wish projects of that scope would be turned into a tv miniseries to do the source material justice.

genius isn't it? They've always struggled to fit one book into a film with making a pigs-ear of it. But wait, they are going to try and wedge 7 books into a film. Yeah.

Whats wrong with stephen king films? They're cheap :)

However, i like em alot in no order. I loved children of the Corn when i was very young, In a stick it to the parents kind of way it was pure entertainment. Carrie was an excellent book that translated to an excellent film. Christine was entertaining if you like killer cars. It was just brilliant, the book was more disturbing then the film. Salems lot was just damn freaky to watch as a child, but it was awesome.

Oh, i've had no internet for a few weeks, so nice to be back.
