Predictions

Post by 3DOKid » Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:15 pm

Edge Magazine made a wild prediction as to the PlayStation in January 1994

Or alternatively it could be white and fall to bit in 6 months? Hindsight eh?

I want more pix!

I love concept art!!! I prob shouldn't say this but I saw a mock-up (as I remember it was not just a shell) of the Nintendo PlayStation. It was the most horrible looking thing you ever saw. I'm pretty sure it was just a development model for the hardware but it was a box with a smaller rectangular one on top. All white, which most development boxes are BTW, the little box on top came off so you could insert a SNES cart. I don't recall if they kept the CD-caddy system, I just remember the loading mechanism was in the front not on top. I love Nintendo but the thing was stupid.

PS. It also had a LCD readout, but on the top.

Wanna know something funny? I know i have stated in the past that my release day ps2 still works and works great. I Still have a working refurbished SCPH-1001. lol. This however does not work great. The cd motor is loud and i have to play games with it on it's side or FMV skips. fun fun. thankfully my ps2 still works so i dont have to worry about my ps1 crappin out. That was the whole reason I bought a ps2, that and i didnt have a DVD player at the time.

It's amazing. The 3DO was out in America and Japan(?) and it was going to be another 8 months before we in the UK got hold of it. And the Playstation didn't exist. Neither the Saturn or The Jaguar.

I still reckon 1993/1994/1995 was the most exciting times for gaming.

Hehe, that's one of those ambiguous sentences that makes me glad that English isn't my mother tongue.

What "issue" are you refering to? The issue that BryWI has with his PS1 or the issue of the Edge magazine?

Spoken english is cram packed full of those isn't it? Mrs 3DOkid moans all the time about the language, it's lack of clarity and its heavy reliance on context.

...but then, I only spotted it when you mentioned it. He meant the magazine :) (I reckon)

That is a common SONY Problem. Many of the first released Playstations had those CD drive problems. The same goes for some series of the slim line Playstation 2 here in europe. I heard, that the Playstation 3 suffers from problems like this too.
I can remember, that many SONY CD Players bought by friends of mine, where the drive died step by step after 2 years.

Would it hurt anyone's feelings if I admit I have a PS2 I keep around just to beat on when I get frustrated with a game? It's in about a dozen pieces.
