Post by Jugger » Sat Mar 28, 2009 9:52 pm

Im playing on a Sharp Aqua 37" and it looks pretty bad. Is there any tricks to make it look a little "duller"?

Heh, if there was a way to preserve the visual quality of old school gaming systems on modern crummy TVs I would've "upgraded" to an HDTV a long time ago.

Um, how's about using an old set? CRT for old, HD for new.

I should also add that a line doubler might help.

Are you using S-video?

I have a 20" Philips set to 4:3 mode (so it won't stretch things out). It doesn't look GREAT, but you can tell it was pretty spiffy for its time. :P

I'm using normal AV cables. I couldnt figure out how to switch to 4:3.

I noticed a lot of games filled the screen but didnt appear to be stretched, which surprised me.

there were a number of titles that were 16:9 supported
Most lcd's do have a 4:3 mode - I would also drop the resolution to 640 x480 if possible
This is as good as its gonna get though
Plasmas tend to look a little better but nothing beats a decent Widescreen CRT (and they're cheap to buy second hand now!)

Is there a list somewhere I could look at to see which 3DO games support 16:9?

I am holding in my hand right now the Japanese release of Port Augusta masters Golf still sealed with original spine card that is clearly labelled 16:9 compatible!

Yeah. 3DO was def ahead of its time making titles in widescreen.

This may be a bad idea, but do you think RF would look better on an LCD since it might "blur" the sharpness so it wont be so pixelated?

Thats exactly what I do and most 3DO games look fine that way. They do seem a little darker though...

Don't you only get mono sound through RF?

Shoot me if im wrong.. (ouch!) I think you can use RF and then still use the RCA audio outputs to go out to a reciever or something else for stereo output.

I meant you can use the RF cable for video and the RCA jacks for audio. RF does carry stereo sound BTW but it will def sound better from the jacks into your surround system. Don't forget some titles have Dolby ProLogic!
