PAL 3DO Question.....

Post by PowerPie5000 » Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:47 am

Just a quick question as i cannot seem to find any info on this....

Does the UK/Euro PAL 3DO normally have an S-video connector??

I have a PAL Goldstar unit and it only has Composite and RF (no s-video port)... I was wondering if this is the same with a PAL Panasonic?

I used to have a UK Panasonic FZ-10 and it definitely had an S-Video port.

Really? I really would like a 3dO with s-video but i never really liked the styling or the feel of the fz-10 :(

I went over to one of my mates who has a fz-1 and his one does not have s-video either! It has RF and Composite (red, yellow, white ports) and where the s-video is supposed to be there is just a covered/blanked off hole.

I think not having RGB on the 3DO was a *very* bad move! I mean even the megadrive, snes and old commodore amiga's had full RGB and they were released before the 3DO and were not as technically advanced! You would have thought all 3DO's would have RGB considering the release price tag!

So is it confirmed that the UK PAL fz-10 has an s-video port? I know the fz-1 UK PAL has no s-video and it has an odd looking RF port (not the usual phono type).

This is confusing.... My Goldstar model GDO202P does not have s-video and it is a UK PAL model.

My mates Panasonic FZ-1 also does not have s-video and it is also a UK PAL model... He say's it is the older/original model with "speckles" all over the top?

I have a couple of pics of the PAL unit without s-video ports but how do i post them?

did they happen to take out s-vid in later revisions to cut the cost? It would make sense.

Taking out s-video to cut costs is a very dumb idea for both Panasonic and Goldstar It is hard to get a decent picture just using RF or Composite and having no RGB is very bad for a console that boasted to be the best with a ridiculous price tag years back!

Now i wish i still had my old pc with creative 3DO blaster installed :? I got it because i could not justify paying the amount they were asking for the Panasonic when it was released! and i already had a nice PC (it was back then  ) so i got the 3DO Blaster and had no problems with it at all!

It is so hard trying to find any specific details on PAL units on the internet! I would like another 3DO but only if it has s-video and preferably a UK PAL model.... otherwise i will not bother and just sell my Goldstar unit....

What is the difference between the all grey and black+grey Goldstar units anyway? My Goldstar 3D0 is all grey in colour and most of the pics i see on the net are black and grey (black with grey CD housing).

Why do you want a PAL model so badly? everything runs so slowly on them.

I could get an NTSC system but it means getting another step down transformer and they are not all 100% reliable and are big and bulky hanging out of the wall socket :? I am not sure how PAL optimised games will look or perform on an NTSC system?

I know the PAL 3DO has got shocking big black borders (the worst i have seen on any PAL console!).

Fortunately UK<->US (incl Japan) power adapters have moved on since 1994

I use the 3rd one down at a recession busting £8.99 it's been alright too.

I have a couple similar to that for my Neo Geo consoles and Jap megadrive..... But they do not last forever unfortunately

I would get a NTSC 3DO but i am not willing to pay the shipping costs from the states :? I would prefer to find one in the UK and the only place to look is ebay... which i am not too keen on! There are a couple of console specialists but they generally charge over the top prices for average condition systems.

How much would a fully boxed all grey Goldstar sell for? I got it cheap with 15 games but would like to get my money back or make a profit.... It works fine now i have cleaned it out... the lens just needed some Isopropyl :D

Would a Jap 3DO still play US NTSC and PAL games?

I don't know for PAL games (I think there are two that need a PAL console to play them) but it would play U.S. NTSC games with no problem.
