3DO FZ-1 Problems

Post by RaZiel » Sun Dec 28, 2008 8:27 pm

So I got a 3DO (FZ-1) from a guy and was told it was working. Well I get it home and try to eject the disc tray and it does and the logo comes up. Then it automatically closes and the screen goes black with no results. Now if I hold the tray open it will stay and it displays dash and the 3DO logo and seems to work fine. Then once I close the tray the access light lights up for like 1 second and the screen goes black again. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks for any help. I was pointed here from another forum and I am glad there is a dedicated forum for this awesome system. Also is there a guide to taking this apart? I have removed the four bottom screws but don't see anything else.

No I have tried three real games and around 30 backups. As long as the tray is open it displays video but the tray tries to close itself everytime. Once it closes the access light blinks once and I see the 3DO display for like half a second and then the screen goes black and nothing happens no matter how long I leave it running. If I eject the tray the screen comes back on and says insert disc once more. I read on Digitalpress someone else had this same problem with this model but he never got it fixed. :-/

EDIT

BTW any help at all is welcomed and I don't consider any help dumb. It never hurts to try to help.

Well I removed the four screws underneath but I don't see what else is holding it on. And I can't find a guide to save my life. :-/ I will keep trying.

Found out the problem. The motor of the 3DO CD drive has a flat spot on it, if I hit the motor with the top off it starts to spins at times. So I need to siply replace the drive motor which seems to be a pretty common part.

Hate to bump an old thread, but did you ever find a replacement motor? I'm in the same boat.
Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return.
