Multi Region on the 3DO Players is a but bitey.

All seems well but every so often multi-region on the 3DO will bite you. (byte you geddit!)

For example.

Casper. PAL Casper works on a PAL machine. NTSC Casper works on an NTSC U.S. Machine but not vice-verse. However - CASPER either PAL or NTSC works on a Japanese machine - weird.

I haven't tried Power Kingdoms yet - which I know is region protected too.

Soccer Kid is another region controlled game!

I've heard from some that the Goldstar player has trouble reading certain discs. Has anyone ever encountred this? Sometimes my Japenese games take a few attempts to load (mainly Virtual Stadium Baseball) but I've never had a game not work at all.

I've heard of issues with Goldstar machines. Some swear that these machines are the most compatible but like you said, I've heard contradictory points of view.

The best machine seems to be the Japanese FZ1 or the Japanese FZ-10. It seems to play everything.

The chap over at the 3DO Collective refers to these machines as "International". maybe that is what he means.

There were two different versions of the Goldstar 3DO. The first one had a cd drive similar to the one used in the Sanyo 3DO. That one had huge problem with quite a few games. Goldstar then replaced the cd drive with a more ordinary one, which fixed almost all compatibility problems.

I never knew that about the Goldstar machines. How do you tell which version you have? (I'm guessing I have the latter since mine runs problem free) 2 machines in 1 yrs time ... no wonder Goldstar stopped production of their 3DO model!

If it has a normal cd tray, then you have the second model. The first model does not have a cd tray at all, instead the whole cd drive comes out of the unit.
