How to annoy retro gamers

Post by 3DOKid » Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:17 pm

Obviously, as we all know, I am the very image of reasonable and none-argumentative, with every fiber of my being focused, as it is, on getting on with everyone.

However, that said, if I really, really, wanted to p*ss of retro gamers, how would I do it?

I could open a Playstation 1 retro forum - that is, indeed, one way... but there has to be others...

You could go to other forums and start talking about a game that doesn't exist.

The 1987 beta version of Shenue, only available on tape and was the precursor to Shenmue? :)

I suppose you could tell them you found a perfect condition Ms Pacman cabinet and you gutted it and put your Xbox inside so you can play Halo. You even repainted the cab a sweet MS Xbox white.

..

That would do it for me...

I feel terrible about that... Let me offer my most heartfelt apology..

Ok, now back to painting my Pole Position II cab "PSX black" so I can put the PSX in there for some GTA: Vice City cab action!!!

desiv

p.s. Yes, I have a PPII cab. No, I'm not painting it at all. Yes, I'm gutting it (it doesn't work and PPII cabs are all bad by design). No, I'm not putting a console in it. It'll be a PC with emulated racing games. PP and PPII for a start. My only 2 questions are: Do I add a brake pedal (the upright PP II doesn't have one, but the sitdown does, as do other games and I think it will fit there, so probably). What do I do with the shifter. It's original and 2 position. A lot of games are 4.. Haven't decided..

I suppose the easiest way would be to march into an unknown forum and start a flame war about how "x system is better than y system".

Wouldn't be a bad idea to see how quickly you can get yourself banned at another site. That in itself would be entertaining.

Hahaha, yes, that would work perfectly! Jaguar fanboys tend to become the most heated of them all when their beloved console is challenged..

Or 3DOKid could pretend to be a PlayStation fanboy on a Nintendo forum.. That would work wonders, too.

Look, Austin, you seem mostly okay or as much as I'm going to allow people to be in my mind, so here's something you may have missed: Nintendo fans have so much in the latent abandonment department... not as much as Sega fans, but the Wii will do that to you... that they will lash out at you for the mere suggestion of trolling at their expense.

Keep your ammo dry.

I have left pure Nintendo bashing and have moved with times:

Kinetic what a complete and utter abominational waste of money that is. £130 so I can wave my arms and scream at TV? I've been doing that for free years just during the news.

Sonys Move seems just as rubbish. Except for one tech demo where they did something that looked a bit like that scene from Minority Report but it's still rubbish.

Nintendo Wafty was all well and fun for the 30 minutes I gave a crap about Wii Sports.

The comment that I hear that pisses me off the most, especially by older people that should know better (kids have a reason to say it) is:

"How can you play that! Those graphics suck!"

Yes. There are people who cannot understand what progress means. And therefore they are unable to comprehend a world where the PS3 did not exist. Even if that world was 20 years ago.

This young boy (18 or 19) at work today told me "I only play games with HDMI" after I was telling him about getting systems working with component video. It turns out the whole time he thought that the old systems, he kept bringing up Genesis, actually had HD capability and that's what I was trying to do.

Another wonderful quote, "Wow I haven't seen a GameCube in aaaaaaaa, about eight years." I so wanted to slap his ass and not in the good way. I also found out today he doesn't know the difference between decibels and fidelity.

I hate new gamers.

I keep tending to find on facebook that people in that age bracket really hold their false facts (oxymoron of the day!) dearly. You try to tell them the truth and they get all mad and block you. It's quite the lulz.

But the original Genesis DOES support "High Definition Graphics"--It says so right on the system!! How could it POSSIBLY be lying?!? ;)

The Genesis was well ahead of the pack when it came to technology. "Blast processing" anyone?

I do appreciate that they had the good humor to name a Trophy in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection as "Blast Processing". If William Shatner can make a living mocking his own career, why can't anybody else?
