Forgone modern gaming for 3DO

Post by 3DOKid » Sat Aug 28, 2010 10:46 pm

I'll admit, that I abandoned 3DO gaming for modern shinanigry in the past year. Bit for some reason, since May this year, all I have played is 3DO. Star Blade, Immercenary, Gex and NFS. It actually makes me happier. :)

Similar situation for me too. Wii dominated the early months of the year. However, it has been surpassed of late by my 3DO (Slam n Jam, Novastorm, & Snow Job respectively)

Same here. I got stuck in a mind-numbing MMO for a while there, but uninstalled it when I realized how much time that damn thing was eating.

I keep checking the Kid's blog to no avail

Do you need some new titles 3DOKid? I haven't counted to verify, but it looks like you have covered about... I don't know... 65% to 70% of 3DO titles.

Forza's rather inadequate, anyway.

Can't say I've done much retro gaming, though I played a bit of Super Double Dragon and the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy last week.

I'll get back to the 3do eventually...

Currently on more modern gaming (X-box original) In a 3rd person adventure mode and got into and finished Constantine in the last month (despite the dodgy controls) Attempting to finish Manhunt or start and finish Ninja Gaiden or Buffy (Vamp slay) next.

I was doing a lot of 3DO gaming early-on in the year, Jan and Feb. Since then it's been bouncing back and forth between other systems I have picked up.. Sega/Mega CD, 7800, INTV, SNES, etc.. Haven't done much "modern" gaming, per-se, but I have been playing some PS2 fighters again with friends and have been getting into some more modern shmups..

Forgo modern gaming for 3do? Hmmm interesting proposition.

My mind is filled with images of 3do aficionados in their 3do Monastery obsessing over various 3do novelties. Discussing oddities. What IF M2 came to the market. What a glorious day that would have been. I wish there was such a place :-) I'm sure 3dokid is going to open such a haven someday.

I've been playing Tetris DS on wifi like MAD these past few months. I did get some NFS and Road Rash game time in a bit when I had my 3DO set up at the Classic Gaming Expo though.

Tetris DS is really fun on the wifi. I used to play a few rounds before bed. It's been a while though.

Well, I've got Quarantine coming in the mail. I just picked up Lemmings with the mouse last week. I still have Icebreaker sitting in my system currently unfinished (I should probably get back to working on completing that). I suppose after picking up a few more titles I will have to make some room to bring out the FZ-10 again.

Forza is sterile. Say what you want about about Gran Turismo but it feels, (crappy phrase alert) more organic. The guy who makes it loves car and racing right. No matter what car, no matter what track...

Forza just tries to beat GT. Which is where it all goes wrong.

Yes like modern gaming to be honest.

Nothing beats the 93 to 98 period for gaming, the excitement over the first consoles able to do texture mapped polygons, PC 3D graphic cards etc.

I agree. Texture mapping is the norm now, but seeing it in the home for the first time was amazing. That said, some of the old 8/16bit machines had given it a go but there was nothing quite like seeing NFS or Wing Commander III for the first time. We take too much for granted... :)

Unreal for the PC. That was a game that kept getting better every time you got a new card. It felt like there was no end to how much better it would get.

This, without a doubt! 3do, Jaguar, Saturn, Playstation, N64 and all the advancements with the PC format. My favourite generation by far!

The Unreal flyby was slick. 8)

The most comprable 3DO intro would be Dragon lore.

I still have Unreal running on a B/W G3 mac with a Voodoo card in, It still amazes me what they were doing with texture mapping then 8) It was the first FPS that really made me say WTF that's F'ing amazing

Unreal was something else. What other games before that featured actual screenshots on the box cover?

Of course, as technology marched on and Cliffy B.'s raging latent tendencies grew, his games just got more and more embarrassing.

I remember when all the boys were playing FryCry I would tell them if they wanted to see a real game to look at my machine. I would put on Unreal and that intro would make their jaws hit the floor. Then when I'd play and they'd see the volumetric lighting....... oh yeah!

Game cosmetics, simple cosmetics. When playing old games, it's all about the mechanics and you can feel young again.
Well... ehm. Since last week I'm playing Immercenary and Belzerion.
And WipEout for PSX of course.

To confirm what I already knew, I bought Forza 3, and it sucks and is sterile and is a chore. Just as I knew it would be. So, I've been playing OffWorld Interceptor. Which isn't great, but using the money cheat does pep it up a little. At least after 15 years ownership of a game that cost £40, I'm getting a little value out of it finally.

One of the voice actors smarting off the the FMV in that game is comedian Brian Posehn.
