"...Kojima initially planned the third Metal Gear game in 1994, originally titled "Metal Gear 3", and to release it for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer in 1994.[38] Conceptual artwork, by illustrator Yoji Shinkawa, of the characters Solid Snake, Meryl Silverburgh, who was also a character in the adventure game Policenauts, and the FOXHOUND team, were included in the Policenauts: Pilot Disk preceding the release of the full 3DO game in 1995.[39] However due to the decline of the 3DO hardware, development of the game shifted to the PlayStation shortly after it was released..."
I didn't know this. Good grief I'm rubbish.

The worst thing about MGS2 was the waiting. I must have played the PS2 demo until my fingers were raw. Even the wife sat watching it.Vance wrote:I think we're on the same page. I loved the technical benchmark MGS2 set, but the damn plot was a royal clusterfuck. 3 was great, and 4 was phenomenal. I was rocked from the start of the microwave hallway down to the last, brutal punch.
There have only been a hanful of games over the many years that I had to pre-order so I could have them on day 1. MGS2 is one of them. In fact, it was the game that sold me on the PS2 after a year of waiting. But yeah, the story was beyond ridiculous.
I loved the first game for the psx. I bought the Bleemcast disc for it, and later the Gamecube remake which was sweet!
MGS 3 was also great fun, and I think (to some extent) underappreciated.
I've yet to play 4 ...
Now I'm off to pop the policenauts pilot disc in my 3DO ...

I had no problems with the story of mgs2. It was different. I liked to be confused as long as it's all explained in the end. I found the last couple of hours of the game truly epic in my opinion. Even if 1.5 hours of the 2 hours was spent watching cut scenes.
3 was a fun game to play but I dont think it had the same cinematic qualities to the story line as 2. I missed that.
I have never played 4 unfortunatly and I really want to but I dont have PS3.

MGS - Best. Game. Ever. (on PlayStation).
MGS2 - ok but would have been better without Raiden
MGS3 - Hideo Kojima redeeemed himself on this one. Much superior than MGS2 with a better storyline and a lot of new features and hidden stuff to find.
MGS4 - *sigh*. The game has about 10 hours of cutscenes and 10 minutes of gameplay. Some of the individual cutscenes go for an hour! Yes, an hour! Confusing story too doesn't help.
Hmm....there's a pattern here. Could it be that odd numbered games in the series are better than even? Should mean MGS:Rising will be good!

I don't get people who thought 2 had a great plot, yet 4 was confusing. That's really weird. MGS2 kept repeating itself over and over, and the whole plot up to the two hour talky finale was an exercise in redundancy just so they could make that point. At which point it was not terribly cinematic, seeing as almost an hour was dedicated to a codec conversation.
And arguing that MGS3 lacked cinematic quality after the sheer amount of literal talking heads in 2 doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
