Txt u l8r m8!!!! et cetera is what get's my goat. It was aweful on BBS systems when you connected at 1200baud, there is no excuse for it now.

The worst part wasn't waiting to read due to the load time at those speeds from such awful abuse, but the phone bill because of the long load time. Remember when your internet bill was all the long distance calls you made?

i do, but i didnt start using dial up untill dec 1999 and one time i couldnt connect to my normal free line so i picked a line that was actually no more than 2 miles away and i got charged for long distance or a toll call not sure which

the city i lived in was called brownstown and the city i called was flat rock which i lived about 500 feet from the flat rock city line. i got a $310 phone bill (damn everquest) but i could call a Detroit phone number and not get charged long distance or a fucking toll call. detroit was about a 20 min freeway drive away (probably 15 miles away) and not a 5 min walk

thats why the phone companies are big a$$holes

edit -- i had to check and see which derailed thread i posted this in

PS: hey Lightning what do you think of your thread being one of the busiest on the forum right now?

He must be very proud.

In the UK we were lucky with dial-in, from pretty early on. Everything was a local rate call, and some cases it was free. Benefits of being a pokey little island.

-- Edit: Lemmi, this is the thread about the announcement that Lightning has started an all female clan in the hope he gets laid.

Really? That's amazing. Telex was something was educated on in Business Data Communications (a module at Uni) but I never actually used the hardware.
