What films / TV have you seen recently?

Post by 3DOKid » Sun Sep 05, 2010 7:15 am

Of new films, I saw Repo Men and Solomon Kane both of which I really enjoyed. Solomon Kane is brilliant.

I also saw Splice, which was clearly made by angry militiant, recently jilted women. Who hated men, scientists and other women.

And naturally, a million retro movies. Heathers, Pump up the Volume, the Wizard, Revenge of the Nerds.

And all of series 8 of Married with Children...(on the plane back from Vegas!)

I watched myself play video games. I dont have cable tv and I perfer not to sit for 2 hours watching a movie unless it is really that interesting. I need more interaction to be able to sit and stare at the screen. Maybe I am just weird. :)

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978) - not as good as i remembered it (unless im thinking of the 2nd movie with george clooney)

Heavy Metal - (1981) - i never get tired of the music in this toon

The Other Guys (2010) - this movie was pretty good

MacGruber (2010) - just a silly SNL movie with tons of swearing and gross stuff

The Expendables (2010) - the best movie ive seen this year behind Iron man 2

The Chosen One (2010) w/ rob schnider - this one surprised me but it kept my interest though the whole movie

Walk Like a Man (1987) w/ howie mandel - just a goofy 80s movie

Man on the Moon (1999)

as for TV shows ive been watching Louie (new louis CK show on FX VERY funny)
Psych - love this show
Eureka - is jumping the shark this year with this stupid alternate timeline thing all season so far

A friend of mine keeps wanting me to watch Kick Ass. He says it's just my style, young girl swearing up and down the place and she even kills a bad guy. Sounds cool.

Oh and TV series True Blood. It's on the end of the third season but if you buy the BD/DVD sets you will not be disappointed.

Dead and Buried (1981) - perfect dramaturgy, surprising end, brutal and direct, very professional pictures, good colors, good actors. Not too long, not too short, perfect splatter / storytelling mix.

Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970) - girlfriend says: "this isn't a nice film" I respond: "it is not meant to be a nice film"

Black Moon (1975) - Alice in Wonderland for mature people. Women fight Men - the opposite of life, allegory follows allegory, magic, low budget, intense atmoshpere, interesting pictures.

Underground (1995) - Harsh and surreal anti war movie about the Yugoslavian war, the Balkan region and the lifestyle of the people. A little bit too long, too much playful but humorous. Especially the end is remarkable because of it's crititc on the U.N. actions at that time. One scene: Guy rabs a cat passing by and cleans his shows with the cat.

Going to watch "The Face of Another" (1966) tomorrow with my girlfriend in my new flat on DVD. I'm a big fan of Kobo Abe and Hiroshi Teshigahara. Have nearly all Abe books and doing (german) reviews of them on my website. Ordered it via amazon UK.

I missed the movie "The Road" (2009) - I liked the book. Aired on Oct. 7th 2010 in Germany. Cannot wait to watch it on DVD.

Watched the first "Pirates of the Carribian" (2003) for the first time. An adventure comedy movie. Simple stupid story. Some good, some boring jokes and boring fighting scenes to stretch duration and my concentration.

Watched the czech short movie Visitors From the Galaxy (1981):

i highly recommend the movie "RED"

and others ive seen

American: the Bill Hicks Story -- its sad he had to go to the UK to get work that paid money, and generally liked more

Snowball Express 1972 - a classic movie from my early 80s cable days with the wired cable box controller
I missed the movie "The Road" (2009) - I liked the book. Aired on Oct. 7th 2010 in Germany. Cannot wait to watch it on DVD.
i never read the book but the movie bored the crap out of me, good luck with that one

I watched the Road too.

- It's miserable. That sums it up. It is supposed to be, but it was so bleak, so miserable -- So boring.

- It's badly timed. "Son, we have another 100 miles to walk" 10 seconds later "Here we are then..." ...eh!?

- It's obvious. Ooh, I wonder who is following them?

- It's contrived. Here we are happy in this secure underground nuclear bunker with loads of food and happyness. Let's go, I heard a dog. ...WFT!?

The ending made me call my Dad the next day mind you!

I prefered, as a Apocalypse movie: ZombieLand. Much happier. And has Bill Murrey.

I saw The Lost Boys: The Thirst. It's full of references to the Original (unlike the Tribe) but just doesn't quite work. I sort of enjoyed it.

Watched Judge Dredd last night. It's just as bad as they say.
It's a pretty fun movie though. ^^

Should I watch the remake of nightmare on elm street? or should I fondly remember the original and move on.

I fixed that for you.

Elm Street really wasn't a remake. It was more like the new Planet of the Apes or The Fly. It was a re-invisioning. It was good, they almost made him out to be a molester but didn't. I really hated the implied part though. Other than that it was fun. They could have done more with the makeup however,

Our local paper said RED tried hard but couldn't do a good job. I have to keep reminding myself that the people who do the reviews think Harry Potter movies suck.

Just got season 2 of Doll House through Netflix. A pretty good show which gives me flashbacks of the Pretender.

I watched 30 Days of Night: Dark Days - I loved the original, and this one went straight to DVD, but it's pretty good. It has something of the 1980s about it (no bad thing) and kind of really liked it :)

I saw the first one in the theater, I hoped for more but it was still good.

I just watched Predators and for the first 45 mins I was like, "I prefer the first two". Then Laurence Fishburne shows up and the rest of them movie was great! It's probably a good thing I missed it in the theater because I started laughing uncontrollably when the music for the credits started.

i liked the movie except for the acting of the main guy, the voice he was putting on bugged me. i made fun of that guy though the whole movie.
other than that and the doctor guy that was so predictable (as soon as he said doctor i knew what he was going to do later in the movie), i enjoyed the movie

See, I didn't with the doctor. I figured they gave the team a medic to make it a little more challenging. If you watch the deleted scenes they even give you a reason for him being there. That he was abusing drugs and stabbed a woman on the operating table.

i dont get deleted scenes with my movies ;)
i figured he did something really bad thats why he was there, my thought was, ok a seemingly normal guy, i dont think so and he is going to turn on one or more of the other people at some point

i didnt know the movie exsisted untill my stepdad said i want to see the new predator movie, i was like a new one? time to look into it and i didnt have a hard time finding a rip .. lol

Lemmi wrote:the pirates of silicon valley was ALOT better
I really liked that. It aired on TV and then I bought the VCDs. I still have them even though it finally came out on DVD.

SPOILER:I kinda figured the doc was going to surprise us and take out a predator with the poisoned pocket knife, but it was a nice twist.
