Which version is this?

Post by cybdmn » Sat Feb 12, 2011 4:21 pm

I have Killing Time three times, the red disc, the black disc, and one... well, uncolored disc.

Anyone know, what version it is? The print on this scan is actually darker.

If i had to guess, no color is a bootleg. but the black one is the mail-in updated version.

Definitely a pirate. Which one they pirated is anybody's guess without playing it or disassembling a disc image.

I can honestly say that I have never seen a Pirated 3DO disc like that. Awesome, in a way. The only time I have ever seen 3DO pirates are on CD-r media.

Most Hong Kong pirates look like this. Cheap silkscreening but at least they are generally pressed.

check to see the writing on the ring of the disc

all my US based Killing Time discs (Red / black) are pressed by the same company, AP or something I believe. Just look at the red or black discs, you will see it.

Then see who made that disc...probably a pirate

Interesting find though...any chance your willing to let it go? 8)

If pirates can get it pressed, why can't we?

There is no logo or something on the ring, just KILLING TIME is pressed in.

If i had two copies. ;-)

Because it cost money, even while today you can get small pressing at reasonable prices. Nobody will pay, if he don't get his money back.

After i took out all the paper stuff out of the jewel case, i have found interesting things. The front cover is just a folded paper, with the print a little bit less saturation as the original. It is not a cheap copy, it is printed, but just on one side, not like the manual, which came with the red copy.
The same thing, less saturation, can be seen on the back.
But, under the back cover, which only covers the backside, not the spines, i found a second sheet, which is printed on thick, raw paper.

That's a cool disk there. I haven't seen that one before.

Do you remember where you got it? Was it an Ebay purchase?

I am not sure, but i think i got it together with my Goldstar 3DO, i bought off of ebay. For many years this was the only version of the game i had.

I have some other 3do pirate discs. They came from HK for most of them (but I bought mine in a lot in France many years ago).

Hmm, that really is a neat disc, even though it is a pirate. Never seen anything like that for the 3DO. I miss all that stuff like that . . .
