Coasters!

Post by prabmire » Fri Apr 08, 2011 6:22 pm

A sure fire way to make a whole load of coasters is to burn 3do discs for them not to work!, i've tried different speeds, various brands of media, i get nothing! this sucks as my 3do didn't come with need for speed or return fire and i was itching to play them the most along with some other awesome titles :(

I'm thinking maybe i'll try some taiyo yuden discs some top quality ones, they should work, its just a pain, i really don't want to open the console up and use isopropanol alcohol on the lense unless its the only thing that will solve the issue

I once used Micro Machines on the CD-i as a coaster. It was the best coaster ever.

well then it would have to be the way your burning the game from the online source. ive only downloaded 2 games for 3do from the internet and those were japaneses games, it also was about 6 years ago

all i remember was you have to burn it at the slowest speed, other than that ive only copied a few of my retail games as back-ups and all are on different cds (maxell, verbatim, imation, memorex, no name brands...etc)

maybe its a pal machine problem i wouldnt know about

Mines a a japanese FZ1 and i've burnt at the lowest speeds possible from ISO's :(, maybe i'll try doing a direct backup of one of my existing genuine games and see if that works

Maybe your systems laser is just getting weak?

I've never had a problem with backed up games. I haven't burnt my entire library, but some of the rarer games, or ones I'd like to keep sealed, have all worked perfectly on my system.

My burner (I own a mac) won't even allow me to burn at any speeds slower than 16x, and I've only made like 2 coasters out of probably 15 total burns.

That's including direct copies made from discs, or ISO files that I got for games that I have kept sealed.

yeah my burner is on an i7 imac and it won't burn slow either, the slowest i've burnt on it was probably 16x like you, maybe my games are all fine, just i have a weak laser, can i get replacement lasers? or should i maybe open it up and clean it?

Are you using CD-RW discs? A LOT of systems I've got hate them.

When backing up my discs, Gold Kodak CD-Rs seem to work the best for me. Even a temperamental Sega CD model 1 has no issues with them.

Yeah, I've only ever used straight CD-R discs as well. Never really had any problems as long as I burned at a slow speed.

I find my 3DOs don't like certain brands. Tevion CDRs work burnt at any speed.
