What is your preferred 3DO console?

Post by Calavera » Wed Jun 15, 2011 6:16 am

Just wondering what everybody's personal favorite 3DO console model was. Personally I own a Goldstar model and that is the only model I have tried, but I really do like the design of the Goldstar the best. The FZ-1 is close though. If you select other please explain.

i just voted 4 the FZ10, but i really should have voted 4 the 3DO PC Blaster card because of the almost unlimited 600mb 486 SX-33 PC's HDD save game space and 8 meg of old school RAM, can i change my vote now or do i forever have to hold down my 3 (all three) button 3DO controller to escape the menu screen? or can i just press "esc" on my keyboard

I've only owned the Goldstar and FZ-10. Out of the two, definitely the 10. I would like to get my hands on a nice CIB FZ-1 though. That unit looks sexy, but alas, I have never tried it personally.

Not really any way to change it, this is the best I can do

Neither the HDD nor the system memory of the host PC are utilized by the Blaster.

The 3DO Blaster is an entire "console on a card" and as such utilizes its own NVRAM, DRAM and VRAM.

for playability and reliabilty you can't go wrong with the FZ-10. It's just the workhorse.

My FZ-1 is still on the shelf, but that's because the tray loading makes it stackable. IMO the FZ-1 feels like a more expensive machine all around. Solid construction, svideo, built in AC. I really like it, but the FZ-10 is still my workhorse.

Same here, FZ-1. I like that its front loading, and that its built like a tank. One of the most reliable consoles I've ever come across.

FZ-10. The FZ-1 is a lovely system, but I've developed a fear of old, retro consoles with moving parts.

Motorized tray vs. flip top lid ... probably what he meant.

I am not really that familiar with the different models but I will say my most favorite brand associated with 3DO is Panasonic as they are one of my favorite electronics makers next to Magnavox, JVC, and Sony.

I owned a FZ-10 back in the day and only recently re-purchased one, but also got a FZ-1 along with it. I have to say the FZ-1 is really and truly a thing of beauty! It's gorgeous! And if released today I honestly believe it would still garner a lot of attention, the design is still futuristic and compelling to me.

I never owned the Goldstar or Sanyo models, but I always thought they looked cool. The Goldstar one was a nice colour and shape and I'll definitely be adding one to my new collection. However, while I never saw a Sanyo one in the "flesh" I always thought it was a beauty of a machine! It was my dream machine and probably still is. The ripple effect, the front LED, the front panel, everything about it was just awesome!

However, as I've never owned one, and even though the FZ-1 is a spectacular looking machine, I've voted for the FZ-10 as it holds a special place in my heart as it was the system I owned before and have so many memories attached to.

I never thought of that, and you're right it does have that Ancient Egyptian look on its four rounded corners. Plus you're right about the Panasonic build quality, which is always superb!

It's a shame, as I think the Goldstar is a lovely machine, but I think the Sanyo is a beaut too and it's being ignored  But then again I did go with the FZ-10. Every 3DO machine is a lovely creation in my eyes, but we can't pick them all ;)

I'm sick, what can I say.

I voted for the FZ-1. I still own, and play, my original FZ-1 from late 1994. It is a quality machine and has never once given me any trouble.

My Goldstar is a model GDO-101M manufactured April 1995. Are the GDO-101M rare or more valuable? The reason I ask is because there is a Goldstar on ebay with the GDO-101M in the auction title and they are asking $133 for it and it is in pretty rough condition. Here is a link to the auction.

It's just a goldstar. Nothing special about it other than he has no clue what it's worth.

Um, you don't have the M2 as a choice. How am I supposed to vote for it? 64-bits is better than 32, do the math!
