Viewpoint Neogeo / PS1

Post by 3DOKid » Sun Jul 17, 2011 10:54 am

Ooh they are different. (I was wrong!)

Electronic Arts did the PS1 version, Sammy did the Neo Geo version.

The PS1 Version is prettier (depending on you point of view) a little sluggish in the controls, and much harder. On Easy on the Neo Geo version I can get to the first end level without dying. The PS1 version kills me about 3 or 4 times on the same difficulty. It's not that the PS1 version is sluggish, some elements have been made harder.

Graphics:

The Neo Geo graphics are a little flat, very clean but have no effects. The PS1 version has a glossy metallic effect. The explosions have changed, the ship has changed (3 engines on the PS1, 2 in Neo Geo)

And they have purposefully made the PS1 harder. Notice how the gates in the PS1 version are closer together giving you less time to open the next one. Both version set to "easy".

Um, ewww. I think the original looks better but I'll probably end up with both.

If you guys want, I can do a comparison video of both versions in action. I've been itching to hook up the Neo-Geo CD anyway...

As good excuse to play NEO-GEO if I've ever heard one.

Since when did anyone need an excuse to play NEO-GEO? :)

You should be using it FOR an excuse like calling in sick to work or not paying the bills. It can be exspensive!

There is a saying in the NEO-GEO collecting realm, "Drugs would be cheaper."

All right, here it is! A little behind but I decided to go all-out and experiment a bit since I just got some new editing software. Let me know what you think. :)

When it all comes down to it the Neo-Geo is only 24-bit while the Playstation is 32-bit.

Wow Austin! Very awesome video! Thank you very much!

When it all comes down to it the Neo-Geo is hardcore hardware while the Playstation was a flimsy piece of shit.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I really appreciate it--It took me a long time to put it together. :)

It still makes me sad that the Saturn version was canned. As most of us know, asides from some rare exceptions, 2D titles usually turned out better than on the PlayStation.

There are occasional instances in the PS version where the game runs at a blazing 60fps. These are times where *nothing* is on the screen aside from your ship, but it gives a taste of what the Saturn version possibly could have been like *all the time*.

Until this thread I thought the game only came out for NEO-GEO and PS1. The FM Towns one looks very close to the original. I hope Will gets that system and Viewpoint to go with it.

Yeah, the FM Towns one looks good. Resolution is a little off, and there's some slowdown not in the Neo-Geo one, but other than that, it seems to be the truest port.

Seems like the FM Towns havs a fair number of games that are considered the best console ports.

i would love one but the prices are silly at the moment. I go to Japan in the New Year so i might have a rummage around then. Unless a sensibly priced on appears on ebay that is.

:)
