LASER FOR 3DO FZ-10 FOUND AT CREATIVE CD-ROM DRIVES

Post by g40rocket » Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:32 pm

Ok people,

I don't know if someone already post this but i found that the CREATIVE SB (Sound Blaster) CD-ROM drive has the exactly the same laser that 3DO FZ-10 has too.

The CD-ROM is this:

It's the same Sanyo SF 92.5 4/11 short cables.

I already change my old faulty 3DO laser and works after a little little adjustament.

3DO alive again !

Good luck to find thoose drivers.

Look at Pentium 100 or 133 Mhz, usually has that.

Isn't that the CR-563B Cd-rom? If so, that's the one that was used on the 3do blaster rigs so it might be more valuable as a whole then just for the laser.

Other CD-Rom models?

Post by Coffeejits » Tue Oct 18, 2011 3:04 pm

Better yet, is there any way to identify other 2X CD-Rom drives, i.e. Sanyo, Sony, etc., that may contain this elusive Sanyo SF92.5 laser pickup? Is the drive speed and laser pickup dependent on one another, i.e., can a Sanyo SF92.5 laser pickup only work at 2X speeds or will they be present in higher speed drives as well?

I hope someone can answer these questions as my 3DO just went out, and I'd rather repair than replace the unit.

Yes, it is the CR-563B model.

I also would like to know if some others cd-rom drive or maybe portable cd players has the same laser .

I don't find any more creative drives here.. Looks a very complicated thing.

Interesting know compatible devices. My FZ-1 works well, but maybe in few years the laser can present any kind of problem and would be great have one cheap and fast sollution like this ;-)

Indeed, interesting!
But considering the prices of those (3DO Blaster) CD drives, it would
probably be cheapest and easiest just to replace the complete drive.
You get FZ-1s for 30 bucks at eBay, I doubt that a Creative Labs drive
would be cheaper?

Just to let people know, I tracked down a Creative CR-563B at ultradrives.com. The drive cost $3. The shipping was $21. For standard shipping no less. Either way, I switched out the pickup and my 3DO is as good as new now.

I also noticed that the 3DO drive and the Creative CD have identical internals; other parts can be harvested to repair 3DO drives, i.e, tray motor, CD spin motor, etc.

Ultradrives also sells a Sanyo ECR-502 2X CD-ROM drive with a proprietary AT-Bus. Does anyone know if this drive contains the SF 92.5 4/11 pick-up?
