I have two FZ-1's. I would just need to pay for the controller as well as a hard drive. I would also need to do some soldering?
1) As I know, this adapter is for FZ-10.
2) Yes, you must solder few wires. It is simple. Detailed instruction attached.
3) You must buy a notebook type IDE HDD, IDE adapter and also pay for shipment in your country.

How simple, exactly?

Mnemo didn't gave the permission to share the instruction. I can only say that you must solder all 16 wires to different parts of mainboard, solder red/black wires from adapter to mainboard as power supply. Also you'll need an HDD.

Hmm. I'm just wondering because I have little solder experience. I don't want to shell out $100+ for something that I might end up destroying in the end.

I have a little solder experience too. But I think it would be quite simple. Just some accuracy and time. Of cource you'll need a small soldering unit.
Note that you'll need an external power source in case of using regular HDD/CD DVD drive.
PS. If you are afraid to solder you can give this work to an other person.

NIce pictures, thank you very much.

There are some good guides to soldering on youtube.

1. I think it's a neat skill to have.
2. WIth practice, i don't think it's too much of a challenge. There is just a knack to it.

3DO Experience posted some vids a while back which inspired me :)

my grandfather had 2 Irons that looked like these from the 50's and 60's but the tips broke on both and i used them when they were broke before i got the other one above :)

Sorry, I'm arriving at this game a little late.

I would very much like to purchase one of these. Is there still a group purchase brewing? Please advise & please count me in on anything gelling!

Thanks,
-Jason

I would be interested depending on total price with shipping to Sweden, and when payment has to be done.

-How is one of these things in USD? Shipping?

-I Was looking on the russian forums and saw someone suggested a SATA to IDE converter. Is this a valid option?

-I'm guessing the power can be soldered off of points in the FZ-10? Or how is power ran for the HDD?

Thanks, im a huge WH40K fan :)

I'm a maybe also based on two things.

-Cost of the HDD board

-And if I can get my hands on a fz-10 that just needs a new cd-rom or one for cheap, since this seems like a good replacement for that. I personally own a Goldstar 3DO and I'm not sure this would work with it. Let alone I don't want to mod a good unit.

I only have about 200ish images so I don't need that large of a hard drive. However the reason im interested in using the SATA drive adapter is I have quite a few SATA HDs laying around. I even have a 128gb SD SATA that would almost be perfect for this.

I just want to weigh and review my options before I commit.

I definitely want one but I cannot afford it right now. I could probably spring for it in a month or so. Wouldn't want to be holding anyone back though.

-This costs about 120$ plus shipping to your country. This questions better ask Mnemo.
-SATA converter is not tested yet.
-If we are using a notebook type HDD, we can connect it to FZ-10 (+5V). Also this can be possible if we have IDE adapter for regular CD/DVD HDD. In that case we need to buy this simple adapter.

Austin, I really don't think you'd be holding anyone back with a month. Counting you we still have four more people to go and it might take longer to get 4 to sign on.

Now that's six of us in:

$120 aint bad for a project like this. Let my track down a semi broke or cheap FZ-10 to mod and I will let you know.

This is better than my idea or taking a Rasberry Pi http://www.raspberrypi.org/ and trying to make FourDO work in linux and gutting a FZ-1 console to work as a PC case. i even thought of using a Nvidia ion micro motherboard in a FZ-1 case http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=7177 . I know sacralige but there are quite a few non working units out there im sure ... FYI if someone is looking to get of a FZ-1 (or FZ-10) unit with a cd-rom that doesnt work give me a pm. I have lots of ideas.

Hello & welcome to the forum.

Would try to help, but not exactly sure what part of this topic you want clarification on, as the info you need has already been posted in this thread ...
