Icebreaker 2

Post by Trev » Mon Jan 29, 2007 4:07 am

I have already e-mailed Oldergames. They said they would e-mail me when the game is ready for release. I am excited, and hope that this is the first of many new releases for the 3DO! :D

probably not so i voted no

the only homebrew/new games for a long dead system i ever bought was Beef Drop for the Atari 7800, and Beggar Prince for the Genesis

if it wasnt released during the time the 3DO was still alive i probably wont buy it, unless its the Star Trek NG or NHL 96 games that they had advertised in magazines (i gots the proof)
plus i didnt care for Icebreaker to begin with

I'm kind of interested in this. I remember reading that it would only work on his 3DO dev system and he would be happy to let others play, as long as they are happy popping round to his house.

I guess things have moved on - which is great news.

Do you have a link?

Thanks!

I just read about it at http://www.Oldergames.com. It is on the main page. I think all of the forum members should support this. Even if this particualr title isn't that exciting (I wasn't a huge fan of the original Icebreaker myself) it can open the door for other new or unfinished 3DO projects, much like gooddealgames has done with cd-i.

On songbird and telegames on the Atari Jaguar - it's amazing what they are doing...

I can't really vote seeing as I'll probably sweet talk oldergames into giving me a free copy!

Played the game a couple of years ago and it's really nice. Of course the important thing would be the encryption breaking. I'm not sure what the status is on this at the moment but they had a man on top of the job by all accounts. Who knows, this could pave the way to more unencrypted releases!

Encryption has been known for quite a while. Thats why we can extract the contents of the CD with a couple programs that are out there on the net. But oldergames got into contact with someone that took a copy of the dev version and was able to encrypt it into something that would boot on a 3do. Once the Freedo team releases their sdk for 3do, anyone will be able to do this. But anyways, last I heard, Oldergames was supposed to start working on selling I2 the start of this year. Thats what they told me in an Email.

...After what I wrote about Ice Breaker on my blog, I'm probably black listed. I also probably made it to the top of the list to be shot on sight when the IceBreaker 2 is released...

As I understand it's not Encryption as such - its more a hashing algorithm. I mean - breaking Encryption would be a feat in itself right?

Im not sure what it is, but i know it's broken :) Also, even if it was encyrption, those can be broken too. And yes, it is a feat. A feat I could not tackle. lol.

Are you serious? :o You should consider yourself quite fortunate if this is the worst you've seen. You have been spared much grief.

Or how about the Golden Oldies titles? :x From the same team that made the garbage shooting game 'Alien Gate. Anyway, I still love my cd-i, but yeah, it has a much weaker library than 3DO

Really? I reckon the CD-i conversion of Arcade Classics is rather pucker [read good!]. I've spent alot of time investigating these conversions by ADS and in comparison they beat every other format of the CD-i era hands down. The CD-i conversion of Ms Pac-man even includes additional mazes! Some of my research is available on-line over at the Arcade Classics Game Page if your interested.

i didnt care for the scrolling Ms pacman screen, the only game i played that did that was on the atari 2600 and it was called Jr. pacman, additional mazes doesnt do anything for me really

and i think Galaga was only half screen and WAY too fast, i didnt see any screenshots of it on the page you linked to, Galaxian was pretty good tho but over all i was let down after playing these games and paying to much for it didnt help either

Conclusion? 3DO is better than the Jaguar AND the CDi. No major supprise for me - but, just so we are all on the same page, I thought I'd highlight the point. :)

I do not have Atari Jaguar, CD-i and... Apple Pippin, but I believe to you

My consoles:
Nintendo, and Nintendo, and Nintendo, and...
Turbo Grafx-16
Sega Genesis and Sega Mega Drive II :)
3DO Panasonic FZ-10 Realistic Entertainment Active Learning Interactive Multiplayer
Sega Saturn and another Sega Saturn
Sony PlayStation

Now I prefer only portable devices.

I do not know anyone who owns an Apple Pippin. Information on that system is very scarce ... almost as scarce as M2 info.

Damn, I got all excited about this as I was a fan of Ice Breaker! What's with pimping a release that won't happen? Still having the encryption issues with the system, I see! Why oh why did Trip Hawkins not release the encryption to public domain for the 3DO? It is sad indeed.

Last I heard, Oldergames said it was still slated for release. Why, did something change in the past month or so? I hope not.

Well, I read what they had written on their site, and unless I missed something, like 3DO Kid said, it can only be played on Developmental 3DO systems. What did I miss? If this game releases, I am all over it as I was a fan of Ice Breaker, so that would be damn cool for this game to see the light of day.

I think old Trip wasn't in a position to hand out the Encryption. When he sold 3DO technology to matsushita for the princely sum of $100,000,000 I think every last drop of intellectucal property vanished inside. Including the encryption. However, the algorithum has been broken from what i understand.

Damn Matsushita! They so irritated me with the M2 as I had been waiting forever for that thing! I know I am not the only one, but still I say; DAMN!
