Horror movies - looking for inspiration

Post by 3DOKid » Tue Oct 30, 2007 8:28 am

I love horror movies. Anything with 'Dead' in the title has always been good value:

Evil Dead, Night of the Evil Dead, Return of the Evil Dead, Dawn of the dead (old and new), etc., etc.

I liked the Hills have Eyes 1 & 2 (old and new versions) Texas chain Saw Massacre (old and new), Cabin Fever, Wrong Turn 1&2.

A lot of American horror is very good again - except for when Hollywood gets it's greasy hands on Japanese Horror. The originals of Dark Water, Ring, Premonition and Audition I preferred to their westernised remakes. If you haven't seen: Apartment 1303 is pretty OK and so is

I also liked the old Italian (badly dubbed) horror. Demons 1 & 2 for example.

Some British horror has been good over the past few years: Dog Soldiers was very very good. Straightheads with Gillian Anderson was good too.

French horror film called 'Them' was pretty good too.

Best film recently? 'Vacancy' was a lot of fun.

So - as you can see I'll watch and enjoy any old tat - what do you recommend?

Tales From the Darkside Movie: Pretty good campy flick, 3 short stories with a wrap around.

Event Horizon

I'll edit more in cause I'm drawing a blank...

LULZ

While John Carpenter's The Thing is one of the greatest movies ever made and I highly recommend it to any sci-fi and horror fan, The Beyond is abysmal. During the 80's a bunch of Italian directors kept making shitty horror movies. They were plotless and weren't scary. They were just filled with pointless gore. Cannibal Holocaust is an exception. Although it's not a horror film, it has an interesting plot and nice social commentary.

3do kid, don't you mean Night Of The Living Dead ;)

Romero made 4 Living Dead flicks:
Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead, and the fairly recent Land Of The Dead. All movies are fantastic. The Dawn Of The Dead remake sucked balls. Tom Savini did a very good remake of Night Of The Living Dead. Savini has worked closely with Romero on numerous movies so I wasn't surprised with the high quality remake. There was a spin-off series called Return Of The Living Dead where only the first one was good.

I recommend Lifeforce.

I've liked every version of 'Invasion of the body snatchers' very much. Good stuff!
