Let me know if you decide to give it a new home. I have an empty Goldstar box that needs to be filled. I had another unit just a few months back, but I got rid of it because it was acting up in various ways (primarily software glitches, and a flimsy drive door that opened on its own if the system was tilted the wrong way).goldenband wrote:Got a GoldStar unit yesterday for $15, with a 6-button controller and a loose disc of Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise (which brings my collection of 3DO original games to around 45). Fatty Bear seemed to run perfectly; I haven't tried any burned backups yet, but my expectations are low since it's a GoldStar. I'll probably play with it a bit and then find it a new home.

I thought for sure I'd be sending this one to you, but it turns out that it runs burns brilliantly (at least the 2-3 I tried), even burns on cheaper media like Sony. So I ended up giving it to my brother instead of my old FZ-1!Austin wrote:Let me know if you decide to give it a new home. I have an empty Goldstar box that needs to be filled.

treated myself to some new 3do hardware.
FZ-FV10 complete(J)
I just hooked it up quickly in my test area. It plays all the VCD's I own, which isn't that many. Watching Star Wars ESB right now. Quality is decent through my line doubler, but the colors are very cold and dull. Not near as good as the laserdisc.
One odd thing is it tries to play my burned games as Video CD's. I only have a handful of burned games, but it tried to play most of them as movies.

I think the FZ-V10 looks very sleek with the FZ-10, it looks like it belongs there, and not some odd afterthough like the FZ-1's decoder do. I only have a handful of VCD's, but the decoder plays them with little issues. Any quality issues might be down to the compression rate etc of the actual VCD-film.

Yeah I have several VCDs and none of them can compare color wise with DVDs or LDs. I get the feeling that many encoders limited the color simply so not to have massive mpeg artifacts. If you've ever seen the Total Recall VCD that came with the Goldstar's digital video module you know what I mean.
"Wait. You don't have a bag of charcoal in your gaming room???"
They are better than VHS though (generally), the leading format at the time VCD came into play. I enjoy watching my Philips CD-I release of Terminator 2 on the 3DO. I have another film that look pretty faded though, "Unstoppable". I think a lot of it comes down to compression, so yeah LD is definitely better. Either way, it makes the fz-10 look even cooler i think
I have a few Bond movies on vcd which I think look pretty decent. Even better though, they have the early dvd style booklets w/all sorts of pictures and interesting facts. Even the new Blu-ray releases can't match that.

If this wasn't the bit of the forum where we feign pleasantness, i'd ban yo ass.Trev wrote:When I first bought my 3DO back in the day, this was one of my early purchases. Four pretty good games, especially Soccer Kid which over the years has turned into one of my favorites.
Soccer Kid? Really? Favourite?
Oh and yeah, welcome to the forum 3DO Si.

Soccer Kid is great, even if it doesn't take much advantage of the 3DO hardware.

It's a pack along the same lines as the 'Gunslinger Collection' and the 'Maniac Pack' but in my experience it's been a much harder compilation to track down.Martin III wrote:That's an interesting bundle that I've never heard of before. What exactly is in it? Does it have the games' original manuals and boxes, or is it just the discs with a compilation manual?
I believe this and the two mentioned above are the only compilations released for the 3DO?
Anyway, my version came with four individual game discs in jewel cases and four individual manuals. I think two manuals were long manuals, the other two were jewel-case sized. Definitely the Shanghai Triple Threat manual was a long type.
